M.O.T.H.E.R. first local meeting with stakeholders in Calabria by JUMP

The first of a series of M.O.T.H.E.R. local meetings took place on 9 April 2021 at 18:00 for participants and stakeholders on the ZOOM platform, also aired on facebook!

We talked about BORGHI SLOW & SMART with two excellent women, Stefania Emmanuele, Sociologist and Project Manager of “Borgo Slow” and Roberta Caruso, Philosopher and Entrepreneur of “I live in Vaccarizzo”.

The focus of the discussion: offering residency, enhancing the land and generating jobs.

Roberta Caruso exhibited the project in which she invested:
Vaccarizzo is a community of 500 inhabitants in the Calabrian hinterland that has chosen to start again from its material and intangible resources to enhance the village of Vaccarizzo di Montalto Uffugo, a hamlet nestled between mountains and hills. The goal is to repopulate houses, streets and shops, attracting new inhabitants and developing an ecosystem capable of combining tradition and innovation, to set up a community cooperative capable of supporting every business project in the village, reopening essential services to the community, redeveloping the former school building as a training center for social transformation. the construction of a widespread hotel able to give hospitality for short, medium and long periods to people and teams who want to live temporarily in Vaccarizzo with the aim of training new operators in agriculture capable of specializing and qualifying in innovative cultivation methods and capable of generating new productions and income for the community, thus generating work.

Stefania Emmanuele instead talked about BorgoSlow: a mind work aimed at connecting non-rhetorical good practices of local development in the small villages of Calabria in the sector of community tourism, widespread hospitality and widespread hotels, sustainable agriculture. The goal is to create a community of people who work in favor of combating the depopulation of the villages, for the enhancement of agriculture and food and wine, so as to create an integrated system of resources and reception networks to develop interested tourist inflows in the villages. to cultural tourism and community experiences.
