The definition of sustainability encompasses three fundamental axes: environment, society and economic development. Understanding the close relationship between the three is central to the EU’s 2020 agenda and essential for long-term social and environmental sustainability.
While only a few EU citizens participate in political movements, many prefer to take civic action through non-governmental organizations and networks that together represent tens of millions of European citizens. Thus, NGOs have a considerable voice at EU level, gathering expertise that is heard and formulating democratic positions based on the concerns of their members.
However, leading or starting an NGO is usually a long and time-consuming process, which generates many doubts and questions. uncertainties, with no specific and accessible training available to train NGO leaders.
The Erasmus+ project NGEurope emerges as an innovative model to train new leaders to commit to change towards sustainability, through the action of NGOs.
NGEurope brings together specialists from different areas – from environmental protection to social entrepreneurship, including technology and informatics – and its action will be based on in-depth documentary and field research that will be carried out in a vast geographical area covering southern, northern Europe and center. Project outputs include specific and customized trainings for NGO leaders and members, motivational engagement materials, an original observatory for good practices and NGO impact potential, a step-by-step guide on “founding and funding NGOs”.
